There are many times it would be handy to have a dedicated flash system extension cord. This is a Rocketfish RF-NIKTTL extension cord “Compatible with most Nikon DSLR cameras”.

Ends of the cable |
The camera end of the extension is at top. The Nikon TTL-flash mount has a locking pin hole just in front of the hotshoe center contact (visible in the top of accessory shoe, at the cord end). The Rocketfish people don’t use the pin lock locking system and instead have gone with the more traditional screw-down locking wheel, visible projecting from under the top view. I suspect it might prevent some accidents when the extension and/or flash get caught and the top of the camera might get ripped off. Hopefully the tightening wheel would shatter and the hotshoe mount would pull off before the camera deck gets destroyed.
The other end of the cable has a mount for the flash unit.

Instead of the tightening ring on the bottom camera end, there is a tripod bushing on the flash end. This flash “foot” has no accessory shoe contacts, so there is no possibility of shocks.
The cord is long enough you could stretch the flash an arm length away from the camera. It doesn’t give you much more than that, so attaching yourself to the flash in a softbox and then moving away wouldn’t be that workable. There are longer extension cables, but that poses a problem with pulling two things over if anyone gets snagged.
